Album Release (& Birthday!) Party: Heather Mae w/ Crys Matthews & Avery Marshall

HEATHER MAE: Heather Mae is a genre-defying force of a songwriter, with the grit of Joan Jett, the indie-pop vibe of HAIM, and the emotional depth of Joni Mitchell. A fearless social justice songwriter and rabble-rouser, Mae seamlessly blends activism and music, often found leading chants at protests, megaphone in hand. Her stirring songs tackle gender equality, racial injustice, queer liberation, mental health, and the resilience required to survive deep trauma. Whether it’s a queer bop about kissing girls and boys (“Kissing Girls”) or a raw survivor story (“What I Know Now”), Mae’s music challenges listeners to go inward, ask big questions, and embrace their truest selves. Her genre-bending approach—while unconventional in the music industry—is intentional, as she believes social justice music belongs in every genre to reach as many hearts and minds as possible. Her 2025 double album release, alternative “WHAT THEY HID FROM ME” and pop “kiss & tell”, is a bold concept project united by one message: life is better when lived authentically. The former, produced by ZDAN and featuring an all-female band—including Grammy Award winner Allison Russell and the dynamic duo SistaStrings—leans into raw, raucous alternative textures. The latter, co-produced by Mae and Nashville pop-producer Lollies, delivers shimmering pop hooks reminiscent of Chappell Roan and Maggie Rogers. Mae’s live performances are as powerful as they are unforgettable. Often described as “church without the religious trauma,” her shows are elevated by her Nashville powerhouse band of musical misfits—Margot Biever, Laura Clough, Ian Strovino, and Zach Goforth—bringing her albums to life on stage. Equal parts catharsis and revolution, Mae’s music is both a call to arms and a fist-in-the-air dance party, making her the soundtrack the world desperately needs right now.

CRYS MATTHEWS: A troubadour of truth, Nashville songwriter Crys Matthews is among the brightest stars of the new generation of social justice music-makers. An award-winning, prolific lyricist and composer, Matthews blends Country, Americana, Folk, Blues, and Bluegrass into a bold, complex performance steeped in traditional melodies punctuated by honest, original lyrics.

AVERY MARSHALL: Hailing from the heartland of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Avery Marshall is a soulful singer-songwriter who weaves tales of the human experience with a voice and lyrics that resonate with raw emotion. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences with queerness, heartbreak, loss, and triumph, Avery's songs echo the universal themes that everyone understands.
